The green jobs market is booming and there seems to be no sign of a slowdown. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) estimates that the switch to renewable energy systems could create 63 million new jobs globally by 2050.

What’s more, there is real demand for careers in areas that offer climate solutions or contribute to halting global warming. According to data from Deloitte, a record 49% of people aged 18 to 25 and 44% of people aged 26 to 38 choose their preferred career or employer based on personal ethics, with climate change a key concern.

At Thornhvac, one of our busiest areas of recruitment is heating sales and most of the roles we recruit for are for employers who are heavily involved in renewable energy, decarbonised heat and energy efficiency. Here are our tips for finding your next job in green heating sales.

Share your passion

Let your interest in the environment show when you apply for heating sales jobs. Engagement and enthusiasm are important in any sales role and employers that are prominent in the decarbonised heat market will be keen to recruit salespeople who understand the value of products that can reduce carbon emissions.

Research the industry

If you are looking for renewable energy sales jobs, speak to specialist recruiters like us. Rather than spending time scouring the jobs boards online, we can help you understand the industry and find the ideal role for you. We know the companies that are hiring and the type of working environment they offer. We can also talk to you about their areas of expertise and what they are looking for in a salesperson, giving you real insight into the opportunities that are available and what might suit you best.

Build knowledge

If you are keen to work in green heating, we would recommend reading up on the industry. This is a fast-moving sector with lots of emerging technologies. We recommend news channels like H&V News for keeping an eye on the latest developments. That way you can make sure you know your heat pumps from your hydrogen before heading for an interview.

Think laterally about your next move

The green heating sector is expanding quickly and there may be opportunities with companies and sectors you hadn’t considered. Keep an open mind and your heating sales career might take you in an unexpected direction. Don’t worry if you lack experience in decarbonised heating. Most employers will prioritise your sales experience over any specific technical background. They will be willing to invest in training to bring you up to speed on their products and specifications.
