Job description

A Graduate HVAC mechanical engineer typically works for heating, air conditioning or ventilation manufacturers to provide customers with design information and technical solutions, focusing on HVAC products.

Day-to-day activities

The role of an HVAC mechanical engineer with a manufacturer is largely office based and will involve producing detailed quotes and using design and product selection software to help customers with product selection over the phone.

Qualifications

This role is ideally suited to graduate mechanical engineers whose technical knowledge will be highly sought after by heating, air conditioning and ventilation manufacturers whose potential customers will value the opportunity to discuss the technical specifications of products and systems. An HNC or degree in a building services or mechanical engineering discipline is usually required. Experience of working in a building services related position is an advantage but not essential.

Skills and attributes

A graduate HVAC mechanical engineer will have an understanding of HVAC products and systems.

Candidates will be expected to demonstrate exceptional communication skills. They will also adopt a problem-solving approach, listening to the customer’s challenges and using their technical understanding and product knowledge to develop a solution.

Strong IT knowledge of Excel, Powerpoint and any design/CAD packages will be an advantage.

Earning potential

Graduate HVAC mechanical engineers typically earn a basic salary of between £25,000 and £30,000 with a range of additional benefits.
